Marco Spitzar was born in 1964 in northern Germany and moved to Bludenz in Vorarlberg with his parents in the 1970s. The textile industry, particularly Getzner Textil, was the reason his father relocated the family to Vorarlberg. Marco Spitzar attended the School of Applied Arts in Graz and later the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, where he studied in the master class for sculpture under Bruno Gironcoli.
